Patients who are at high risk for bladder cancer will certainly include patients who smoke. This can be smoking primarily, or through inhaling secondhand smoke. Other exposures or risks would be exposures that people get at their jobs or chemicals that they encounter in their homes. Other things might be the drinking water that they drink, a history of radiation therapy to the pelvis, or chronic irritation or infection in the bladder.
