Is a bladder biopsy painful?

If your doctor detects a tumor, they may biopsy this tumor in the office or recommend an outpatient surgery to remove the tumor in order to diagnose bladder cancer. Bladder biopsies are performed in order to make a diagnosis of bladder cancer. These biopsies can be performed in the office or in an operating room. While we do them in the office you will be awake for this procedure, but it is not very painful. It’s almost like giving a needle stick. When we do biopsies in the operating room, you would be asleep, and you wouldn’t feel this procedure.
