Endourology Fellowship
Location: Department of Urology

Length of term: 2 years

General Information:

The Department of Urology at the University of California, Irvine, under the guidance of Drs. Ralph V. Clayman and Elspeth M. McDougall, offers a two-year endourology appointment commencing July 1, 2010.

The appointment will include a junior faculty position as a Clinical Instructor in the UC Irvine School of Medicine with clinical, research and teaching responsibilities. Salary is commensurate with experience.

During the first year of the program, incumbents serve as the Endourology Research Fellow participating primarily in laboratory research projects with minimal clinical duties; the second year the incumbent serves as the Endourology Clinical Fellow assisting in the operating room in robotic, laparoscopic, percutaneous, and ureteroscopic procedures while pursuing clinical research projects.

During the two years, extensive experience is provided with regard to grant writing and obtaining protocol approval through both IACUC (animal care) and IRB (clinical research) committees. In addition, courses in epidemiology and statistics are provided for the fellow.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must be American Board of Urology eligible.

The program is specifically geared to individuals interested in pursuing an academic career in endourology. Many of the most successful academicians in endourology are graduates of this fellowship.

A valid California medical license is required prior to appointment. (No exceptions or provisional training licenses will be accepted.)

Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery Education Fellowship
Location: Department of Urology
Start Date: July 1, 2012
Length of term: 1 year

General Information:

The Department of Urology at the University of California, Irvine, under the guidance of Dr. Elspeth M. McDougall offers a one-year fellowship position in minimally invasive urology education commencing July 1, 2012.

The fellowship will include a junior faculty appointment as a Clinical Instructor in the UC Irvine School of Medicine. The primary objective of this fellowship is to learn the necessary skills to be an effective educator in minimally invasive urologic surgery. However, the fellow will assist the Director of the Astellas Center for Urological Education in the operating room and will be responsible for laboratory training of community urologists, including work with VR simulators, pelvic trainers, animate labs, and the da VinciĀ® surgical robot.

The fellow will have an opportunity to participate in laboratory research projects in minimally invasive surgery in conjunction with the Department of Urology Endourology Research Fellow.Salary is commensurate with experience.

Applicants must be American Board of Urology eligible and within two years of completing their urology residency training.
