
UC Irvine Medical Center is located in the city of Orange on a 33-acre site. The medical center maintains inpatient and outpatient services in virtually every medical specialty and is fully accredited by The Joint Commission. UC Irvine has invested millions in capital improvements in the past decade to upgrade its facilities, expand its medical capabilities and support the myriad of clinical research endeavors of the faculty.
UC Irvine Medical Center is a designated Level I trauma center for Orange County and is the principal clinical facility for the School of Medicine’s teaching and research programs. The medical center has been recognized repeatedly as one of “America’s Best Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report, earned Magnet designation for nursing excellence and won accolades for safety and quality y the Leapfrog Group. In addition to being recognized for the its Regional Burn Center, UC Irvine Medical Center has state-of-the-art facilities for the care of the critically ill and serves as a major referral center for neonatal medicine and high-risk obstetrics. In addition, UC Irvine’s Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of only 41 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States
In March 2009, UC Irvine opened doors to UC Irvine Douglas Hospital, a 482,428-square-foot state-of-the-science facility built to replace the original hospital building built in 1960. Most of the 191 patient rooms are private and offer ample space for families and multidisciplinary care teams, the 15 state-of-the-art operating rooms are 50 percent larger than those used previously.
